PokerStars on FanDuel has continued to gain ground in key US online poker markets, even as the wider regulated sector remains relatively flat. Recent market reporting points to stronger performance in Michigan, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, highlighting the importance of network reach and brand distribution in a mature market.
The US online poker sector remains fragmented across state-regulated jurisdictions. Operators must comply with local rules, and player pools are not automatically shared between states. Where interstate agreements are in place, shared liquidity can help create larger tournaments and more consistent cash-game traffic.
Growth against a stable market backdrop
PokerStars’ performance has been supported by its established brand, tournament offering and integration with FanDuel’s broader US sports and gaming presence. The combination gives the operator access to a large customer ecosystem while retaining a dedicated poker product.
However, the wider market faces structural challenges. Poker requires sufficient player liquidity to keep games running across different stakes and formats, while state-by-state regulation can limit the scale that operators achieve in individual jurisdictions.
Shared liquidity remains a key issue
Pennsylvania’s participation in the Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement is an important development for the sector. Shared liquidity can connect eligible players across participating states, increasing the pool available for tournaments and cash games.
For operators, the ability to combine player pools can improve product depth and make it easier to support a broader schedule. For players, it can mean more tables, larger prize pools and more activity at less common stakes. The long-term growth of US online poker will depend in part on whether more jurisdictions join interstate arrangements.
