Indian Football League Secures Expanded TV and Digital Coverage Through Zee and DD Sports

The Indian Football League (IFL) is set to broaden its national reach after announcing a broadcast arrangement involving Zee Entertainment and DD Sports for the 2026–27 season. The agreement combines television coverage with digital streaming, giving supporters several ways to follow the competition.

DD Sports will telecast every match of the season, while selected fixtures will also be shown on Unite8 Sports. On digital platforms, matches will be available through Z5, Prasar Bharati’s WAVES platform and the official Unite8 Sports YouTube channel, according to the announcement.

A wider distribution strategy

The arrangement is designed to make the league more accessible to viewers across India, including audiences who rely on free-to-air television and digital services. The organisers are seeking to build on the previous season’s reported television audience of 17.56 million viewers.

The combination of public broadcaster coverage and private digital distribution gives the competition access to a wider mix of audiences. It also creates additional opportunities for sponsors and advertisers seeking exposure around domestic football.

Digital access has become increasingly important for sports properties looking to reach younger fans and viewers outside major urban centres. Streaming on multiple platforms can also help leagues build a more consistent audience between matchdays.

Commercial implications for Indian football

For the IFL, stronger distribution is an important part of building the competition’s profile and supporting its commercial development. Wider access can help clubs attract sponsors, improve visibility for players and create a larger platform for future media-rights negotiations.

The deal comes as Indian football continues to look for sustainable ways to grow its domestic competitions and connect with a national fan base. The 2026–27 season will provide an opportunity to assess whether the expanded coverage can translate into higher viewership and stronger commercial interest.
