Nevis Launches Dedicated Prediction Market Licence

The Nevis Online Gaming Authority (NOGA) has introduced a dedicated licence for prediction market businesses, creating a separate regulatory category for operators and technology providers active in the growing event-contract sector.

A new licence category

The Nevis Prediction Market Licence was introduced on 30 October and announced publicly on 2 November, when application forms and licence conditions became available. It sits alongside the jurisdiction’s existing B2C and B2B online gaming licences rather than replacing them.

The framework covers B2C prediction market operators as well as B2B technology and service providers. Eligible event categories include sports, political and electoral events, weather and cryptocurrencies, placing the new licence within a broad prediction market model rather than limiting it to sports-related contracts.

Integrity and customer funds

The framework introduces requirements relating to market integrity and the handling of participant funds. These areas have become central to regulatory discussions as prediction markets expand and face questions about how event contracts should be classified and supervised. NOGA has not disclosed licence fees in its announcement.

The move comes as regulators in established gambling markets debate whether sports event contracts should be treated as gambling products or financial derivatives. A Nevis licence does not automatically grant access to other national markets: operators will still need to assess local laws, territorial restrictions and the regulatory treatment of prediction markets in every jurisdiction they target.
